Kansas Wesleyan Softball team hosted a KCAC foe as the Avila University Eagles came to town for a regular season double header. The Coyotes and Eagles would split one each on the day.
Game one the Coyotes put Caitlyn Collier in the circle for the top of the first. KWU defense got out of the first with no damage after the Eagles left three runners stranded on base. The Coyotes couldn't find any runs themselves either as the Eagles held them to no hits through two innings.
At the top third KWU put Bella Allen into pitch. AU would tack on 2 runs in the top of the third and 2 more runs in the top the 5th as the Coyotes offense remained silent though six innings. All four runs would be unearned.
The Coyotes would rally in the bottom of the 7th as Josie Buhr singled through the right side and scored Brianna Kutschkau from second base; making the score 4-1. Soon after, Hailey Summers doubled to left field that would score two runs as Cali Wosham and Josie Buhr scored making the score 4-3. After a near comeback, the Eagles would find the third and final out through a Coyotes pop fly. AU took game one 4-3 over KWU.
The Coyotes showed a short memory as they would come out in game two. KWU started Alli Mickelsen as pitcher for game two where the Eagles would find 1 run in the top first but the Coyotes responded quickly with 4 runs in the bottom of the first through four hits by Hailey Summers, Trinity Miller, Jenna Soul and Elli Han to make the score 4-1.
KWU allowed zero runs and zero hits with only one error in the top second. The bats continued to find hits as KWU found four more hits. This time from Josie Buhr, then Hailey Summers, which allowed Buhr to advance to third. Keira Hammen was intentionally walked to load the bases in attempt to make it easier on the AU defense to get an out. Trinity Miller had something to say about that as she doubled down the right field line for a two run RBI to score Summers and Buhr to make the score 9-1 Coyotes.
Jenna Soule would join the two run RBI club as she singled to center and allowed Miller and Hammen to score making the score 11-1 after three innings and a stack full of Coyote hits.
KWU would go on to score one more in the bottom of the fourth with a Cadence Mallet single RBI that would score Grace Pierce who reached with a single to left. The Coyotes would collect an easy three outs in the top of the 5th to walk away with a run rule victory in game two 12-1.
KWU is now 18-20 overall on the season and 9-11 in conference play.
