The Southeast of Saline Trojans boys basketball team got back on track tonight with a dominant 65-37 point win over the Smoky Valley Vikings.
SES was led by strong performances by Eli Sawyers (20), and Jaxson Gebhardt (14), who accounted for just two of the nine scorers in tonight's game.
The Trojan defense was on full display tonight as well, holding Smoky Valley to just six points in the second quarter and sending the Vikings to the line just seven times.
“I thought we did a really good job of getting to the basket and making good decisions when we got there,” SES head coach Bryson Flax said. “We were limiting them to one shot and then we were really able to get out on the run and that made the difference”
Once again, the Trojans ability to share the ball worked wonders for their offense, which nearly doubled their point production from last week.
“We stress playing unselfish basketball,” Flax said. “One night someone might get 30 and the next night they might get three or four, but that really doesn’t matter and I don’t think it matters to them. They understand that to be successful we have to make the most of the opportunities that we’re given.”
Due to Covid-19 related circumstances, the SES boys will not play Beloit on Friday as scheduled, but they will still face Sacred Heart on Saturday, and unlike the girls, should be able to play Abilene on Tuesday.
“It’s gonna be a big week for us,” he said. “Sacred Heart lost some guys but they’re still talented. They’re going to be competitive and they’re going to be hungry.”
