Kayla Deaver (SR/Lee's Summit, Mo.) recorded a hat trick as the Kansas Wesleyan women's soccer team defeated McPherson 4-1 on Senior Day at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
The win locks the Coyotes into the No. 4 seed in next week's KCAC Tournament that starts with quarterfinals on Saturday. KWU has one match remaining in the regular season on Tuesday at home against Ottawa in a make-up from a postponement from September 22.
The Coyotes also remained undefeated all-time against McPherson with the win, improving to 28-0-4 all-time against the Bulldogs.
Wesleyan's first goal came in the third minute when Yesenia Hernandez (SR/Long Beach, Calif.) was fouled in the penalty area and a penalty kick was awarded. Leah Betancourt (SR/Sylmar, Calif.) converted the penalty to get the Coyotes on the board.
Very quickly after the first score, the Coyotes would score again, this time Deaver netting the first of her three goals as she beat the packed in McPherson defense and shot from 10 yards out for the score making it 2-0.
KWU held a 2-0 lead at the half.
McPherson got its lone goal in the 50th minute, but the Coyotes again quickly responded, as Deaver netted her second in the 51st minute and completed the hat trick in the 55th with an assist coming from Lissette Garcia (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.).
McPherson ended up outshooting the Coyotes 12-11 in the match. Deaver led the Coyotes with five shots. Daisy Bingham (SR/Huntington Beach, Calif.) had seven saves in goal for the Coyotes.
