SALINA, KAN. -
Salina Area Technical College is inviting the community to a Car Seats & Lights safety event on Wednesday, November 18, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the college’s Automotive Building, located at 2562 Centennial Road in Salina.
Students and instructors from Salina Tech’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Automotive Technology, and Early Childhood Education programs are teaming up to help local families stay safe on the road. With the holiday travel season approaching, the event offers a convenient opportunity for families to have important vehicle safety items checked at no cost.
Services will include car seat safety checks, car seat installations, car seat recall checks, and vehicle light checks. Certified car seat technicians will work with parents and caregivers to help ensure car seats are properly installed and used.
Everyone in the community is encouraged to stop by, whether they are preparing for holiday travel or simply want to make sure their car seats and vehicle lights are safe and working properly. No upcoming travel plans are needed to participate. Salina Tech hopes to welcome more vehicles this year and help more families take advantage of these services.
While vehicles are being checked, Early Childhood Education students will have activities available for children. This gives parents and caregivers time to work with the safety technicians while their children enjoy fun, hands-on activities.
“It’s rewarding to see our students put what they’ve learned into practice while making a difference in our community,” said Callie Robinson, Early Childhood Education Instructor at Salina Tech. “Our students get to use their skills in a hands-on setting while helping local families, and the activities give us a chance to support parents and children during the event.”
The event is open to the public, and visitors should follow the signs to the Automotive Building upon arrival.
