The Southeast of Saline cross country teams put on a strong showing at the Wichita Trinity regional meet on a day that saw both teams finish inside the top five.
The men claimed a regional championship with a score well ahead that of the runners-up from Wichita Trinity, and will bring their whole team to the state meet in Lawrence.
With a time of 17:54.60, senior Brayden Walker posted the fastest time of the meet, with Jacob Bircher and Edgar Calzada joining him in the top ten, and the top five Trojan runners all finishing inside the top 25.
On the women’s side, the Lady Trojans placed fifth as a team, but qualified three individuals: Piper Brown, Ava McGraw, and Anna Jackson, with finishes of 5th, 13th, and 14th, respectively.
All of this was done amidst brutal course conditions and heavy rain that affected both the runners on the course and the course itself throughout the meet.
The state meet will be held at Rim Rock in Lawrence on Saturday, November 1st, where the Trojans will compete to add a 20th state title to the history of their storied program.
