Kansas man dies after semi rear-ends farm tractor, implement

REPUBLIC COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 9:30p.m. Monday in Republic County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Freightliner semi driven by Casey E A Tate, 62, Luray, was westbound on U.S. 36. just west of Scandia.

The semi rear-ended a Case IH tractor towing a farm implement and driven by Andrew J Pumphrey, 38, Mankato.   Pumphrey was ejected from the tractor and pronounced dead at the scene.  He was transported to Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home.

EMS transported a passenger in the semi Michelle H. Hauger, 46, Luray, to the Republic County Hospital. Tate was not transported for treatment of a minor injury.  Tate and Hauger were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
