What's the average age of City of Salina employees? What is the average annual wage? What is the breakdown of female and male employees?
City of Salina human resources recently provided full and part-time employee demographic information in a report accompanying the city commission meeting packet.
Following are Salina city employees by the numbers as of July 31, 2021.
Average age: 43 years
Average years of service: 10
Age of youngest employee: 19
Age of oldest employee: 72
Highest years of service: 42
Average annual wage (excluding overtime): $53,414
Number of female employees: 112
Number of male employees: 334

During a recent city commission meeting staff was asked but did not have current statistics regarding the total number of employees who were at the maximum of their respective pay grades assigned to classified full and part-time positions. Following is the breakdown of employee pay distributions.

When combining the above results, 20 percent of the city workforce is within five percent; 28 percent is within 10 percent, and 39 percent is within 20 percent of the respective maximums of their current pay grades, according to the city report.

As shown in the above table, the city has a large concentration of employees who have less than five years of city employment. The following table looks at hiring totals, with the 2021 numbers including new employees through July 18, 2021, according to the city information.
