Bennington stifles Sacred Heart's perfect season in sub-state semis

The Sacred Heart Knights returned home on Tuesday to host the 7-seeded Bennington Bulldogs, but the Bulldogs took the victory 67-56.

The Knights found themselves struggling to score a basket in the early going of the first quarter, trailing by two at the end of the first.

In the second the Knights never led, scoring just five points and trailing by 13 going into the intermission.

The Knights tried clawing back at the deficit but the Bulldogs were ready, and Bennington went into the third quarter up 44-35.

From there, Bennington held off Sacred Heart's comeback bid, holding on to win 67-56.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Thayne Trout who scored 17 while teammates Brayden Palenske and Isaiah Garrett both added 12 more.

The Knights were led in scoring by Maddox Wells (15), Will Tuttle (14), Noah Hines (13).

Sacred Heart ends their season at 20-1 and will return a great deal of talent of talent next year.

Bennington advances to the sub-state championship game and will face Ell-Saline at Moundridge on Friday.
