GREENWOOD, Ind. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team placed four student-athletes on the 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.
College Sports Communicators (CSC) is the new name for College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), changed prior to the start of the 2022-23 academic year. This award honors a combination of academic and athletic accomplishments of the individuals selected.
The four Tigers honored with the award were Morgan Christiansen, Emily Ellis, Mykah Eshbaugh , and Riley Tinder. All four were All-MIAA performers during the 2022 season while also maintaining a GPA better than 3.60 in the classroom.
Christiansen earned honorable mention All-MIAA status for the second-consecutive season this fall. A middle hitter, Christiansen led the team with 17 solo blocks and ranked sixth in the league with 94 total blocks. She finished her career with 271 total blocks, eighth-most at FHSU during the DII era. The Lincoln, Neb. native is a nursing major with a cumulative GPA of 3.72.
Ellis was a second-team All-MIAA selection this season after ranking third in the league in total blocks (111) and fifth in blocks per set (1.03). The middle hitter also led the Tigers in attack percentage at .224 and added 20 service aces. A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ellis carries a GPA of 3.80 as a nursing major.
Eshbaugh earned her first All-MIAA nod with honorable mention accolades this fall. The outside hitter led the Tigers with an average of 2.67 kills per set, 14th-best in the MIAA. She totaled a team-best 21 kills in a road win over Pittsburg State, the most by a Tiger in over three years. The Concordia, Kan. native holds a GPA of 3.64 as a communication sciences and disorders major.
Tinder collected her second All-MIAA honor this fall, earning second team status in 2022 after receiving honorable mention accolades in 2021. The outside hitter was one of two players conference-wide to rank in the top 16 in the league in both kills (15th, 2.67 k/s) and digs (16th, 3.51 d/s). A native of Basehor, Kan., Tinder is an art major emphasizing in graphic design with a GPA of 3.96.
As All-District selections, the quartet will now be considered for Academic All-America honors voted on by Sports Information/Athletic Communication professionals nationwide in NCAA Division II.
