The Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans dropped their season opener to the Hesston Swathers by a final score of 63-41.
SES fought valiantly, but ultimately, Hesston’s experience proved too much to overcome.
“They were a lot more mature and physical than we were,” Trojan head coach Shauna Smith said. “I feel like they matched us well and for the whole 32 minutes it felt like they got every loose ball, we didn’t catch many breaks tonight.”
Despite averaging 18.8 points per game a season ago, it was a slow start to the season for Karsyn Schlesener, who was held to just seven tonight.
SES did see flashes of greatness from a pair of Freshmen in Maddie Harris and Brielle Ptacek who each knocked down a three off the Southeast bench.
While the Lady Trojans defense was as advertised, cashing in on opportunities proved to be a problem once more.
“I thought tonight we got some great looks but we got stripped a lot and when we got to the rim we just couldn’t finish,” Smith said.
Southeast of Saline will refocus and look to start their season 1-1 when they play Smoky Valley on Tuesday.
