ABILENE - Abilene has once again been named the Best Small Town to Visit in the U.S.

For the third consecutive year, TravelAwaits readers gave Abilene that designation in the Best of Travel Awards.

"Abilene is historically known as a tourist destination, and our partners are continuing to add and enhance tourist attractions to keep people coming back," said Julie Roller Weeks, Abilene Convention & Visitor Bureau director. "Abilene was a tourist destination in 1953, and it still is today in 2023."

According to information on its website, "TravelAwaits began in 2018 to fill a void in the travel industry, focusing on travelers aged 50+. We felt it was important for the travel industry to finally pay attention to these travelers who have the time and hard-earned investments to experience life on their terms."

TravelAwaits spotlights "quaint small towns, unique experiences in big cities, delicious restaurants, and fabulous stays. What sets us apart is making destinations accessible to all readers through our writers’ first-hand knowledge and authentic experiences."

The recent announcement joins Abilene's long list of accolades, including: Best Historic Small Town by USA TODAY, Top 10 True Western Town of the Year by True West Magazine, and Destination of the Year by the Midwest Travel Network, Roller Weeks noted.
