Teen driver cited after rear-ending police patrol vehicle

A Salina teen was cited after he rear-ended a Salina Police Department patrol vehicle Thursday night.

The patrol vehicle, a 2021 Ford Explorer, was traveling southbound on S. Ninth Street and was stopped at the light at the W. Crawford Street intersection. The patrol vehicle was driven by a 26-year-old male officer, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning. A 26-year-old female officer was a passenger in the patrol vehicle.

The light turned green, however the patrol vehicle remaind stopped as a pedestrian was crossing the street, Forrester said.

A southbound 2008 Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 17-year-old boy, rear-ended the patrol vehicle, Forrester said. The wreck occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

No one was injured in the collision, Forrester said.

The Impala sustained minor front-end damage and the patrol vehicle minor rear-end damage. Both were able to be driven away, Forrester said.

The boy was cited for following too closely, Forrester said.
