April 17, 1927 ~ March 31, 2024

Venita Faye (Dunn) Young, 96, of Overbrook, KS and formerly of Burlingame, KS passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 at the Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS.  She was born April 17, 1927 in Fosteria, KS the daughter of Henry Dunn and Hazel (Peavler) Dunn.  She grew up and attended schools in Burlingame, KS, graduating with the Class of 1945 at Burlingame High School. 

She was united in marriage to Bobby G. Young on February 14, 1948 at the Federated Church in Burlingame, KS.  They shared over fifty years of marriage before her husband’s passing on October 22, 1998. 

Venita was a receptionist for Santa Fe in Topeka, KS, Burlingame, KS USD 454, Cotton-O’Neil Lab in Topeka, KS and for Dr. Stan Hornbaker and Dr. Kevin Sundbye in Carbondale, KS. She resided in Burlingame, KS until moving to the Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS in July of 2020. 

She was a member of TNT Club and was very artistic and loved growing flowers in her garden.  She also was a fabulous cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hazel Dunn; and a sister, Ruth Watkinson Tosone. 

Surviving family includes a son, Tom Young and his wife, Donna of Burlingame, KS;  a daughter, Susie Whalen and her husband, Kurt of Lawrence, KS; two grandsons, Matt Young and wife, Becky of Burlingame, KS and Jared Whalen and wife, Sarah of Olathe, KS;  two granddaughters, Lindsey Ewing of Ft. Meyers, FL and Aindrea Scott and husband, Dr. Derek Scott of Woodury, MN; four great-grandchildren, Hannah & Evan; and Ainsley & Gwen; and many nieces.

Cremation is planned.  Inurnment will follow at the Burlingame Cemetery, Burlingame, KS at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Schuyler Museum or to the Burlingame Library and sent in c/o the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 194, Burlingame, KS 66413.
