Millfest Saturday in Lindsborg

LINDSBORG - Step back in time Saturday during Lindsborg's Millfest.

Millfest is the one and only time all year the mill, part of the Lindsborg Old Mill and Swedish Heritage Museum complex, is put into operation, according to information from Visit Lindsborg. Millfest is scheduled for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Old Mill and Swedish Heritage Museum, 120 E. Mill Street.

Not only can you watch the 1898 flour mill in action, but you also can see a quilt show by the McPherson Quilt Guild and demonstrations of traditional arts that include the following.

●spinning

●basket making

●blacksmithing

●wheat weaving

●wood carving

●rope making

●scrimshaw

Wind River Farms, a small family farm from Falun, will have a booth as well.

Demetria Hill from Stephens Land & Cattle will have two presentations during Millfest. At 10:30 a.m., she is scheduled to present What Made Kansas the Wheat State? Later, at 1:30 p.m., Hill will discuss A Year in the Life of a Wheat Farmer.

The Onion Blossom Food Truck will be on hand as you enjoy music from The Front Porch Pickers, Nile Johnson, and Allan Macfarlane.

Tours of the mill, for persons age 13 and older, are $5 per person, with the museum and other activities by donation, Visit Lindsborg noted. A special children's tour of the mill will be available at 5 p.m.
