SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The Kansas Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team traveled up north to face a strong Morningside University Mustang squad. The Coyotes put up a good fight and hung in with the Mustangs until a 4th quarter run would give the Mustangs a 75-57 victory.
The Coyotes had a slow start and only found 10 points in the first quarter with a 3 pointer from Odessa Ozuna who came off the bench early and a couple a tough inside post ups by Paige Chauncey. The Mustangs came out hot at Lily Vollertsen found a quick 7 points as MU scored 20 and went into the 2nd quarter with a 20-10 lead.
Madison Lambert came in off the bench and put some energy on the court for the Coyotes; going 3-3 from deep and 4-4 inside the paint to score 11 points all inside the 4th quarter. With Lambert efforts the Coyotes went into half time trailing the Mustangs 35-32.
The Coyotes had another strong quarter in the 3rd when Jill Stephens went 3-3 from behind the arch and joined the 1,000 point club for overall collegiate career points. With Jill's efforts the Coyotes led going into the fourth quarter 53-52.
Kansas Wesleyan offense would lose the wind in their sails and only scored four points in the fourth quarter. Morningside continued their scoring affair and the Coyotes fell 75-57.
