David Eugene Michael was born on March 10, 1938, in Winona, Kansas, to Guy Michael and Nellie Flynt. He passed away on June 3, 2025, at Village Manor in Abilene, Kansas, at the age of 87.

David grew up in Winona and graduated from Winona High School. He went on to attend Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, where he met his wife, Arlena. The two were married on August 17, 1958, and welcomed their daughter, Micky, in 1960.

David worked in Salina at Western Star Mill, Paris Corporation, and as an instructor at Kansas Technical Institute. He later moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where he worked for Kansas State University in the Continuing Education Department. Eventually, he and Arlena moved to Kansas City, where David worked for the VA until his retirement in 2012.

David enjoyed photography, flying his plane, hunting, and fishing. He was a lifelong amateur radio operator (WAØNXD) and a proud member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Later in life, he joined the Ararat Shriners of Kansas City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Nellie; his sisters, Donna Eichman and Sharon Jones; and his wife, Arlena Michael.

David is survived by his brothers, Frank Flynt of Lancaster, California, and John Flynt of Boulder, Colorado; his sister, Ginger Lyde of Purcell, Oklahoma; his daughter, Micky Menard (Jim) of Abilene, Kansas; grandchildren CJ Jester (Alisha), Kimberly Linn (Cody), and Pat Hubnik (Amy) all of Salina, Kelli Kohman of Bentley, Kansas, and Cristi Menard of Woodstock, Illinois; and nine great-grandchildren.

Cremation has been chosen. A joint burial for David and Arlena will take place at a later date at the Winona Cemetery in Winona, Kansas.
