Kansas Wesleyan's Kelcey Hinz (SR/Whitewater, Kan.) has been named as the KCAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in games during the week of January 10-16 for the Coyotes.

Hinz helped the Coyotes to a 2-1 record on the week including a 95-84 double overtime win over McPherson on Saturday in McPherson.

Hinz was again a huge force on the defensive side of the ball for the Coyotes. She averaged 11.7 rebounds, 5.3 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game for KWU on the week, including 6.7 defensive rebounds per game.

She also set a pair of new KWU records on the week. She became KWU's all-time leading rebounder in Thursday's game against York pulling down her 833rd career rebound in the second quarter. On Saturday at McPherson, Hinz broke her own single season blocked shots record as she now has 86 blocks this season, which leads the NAIA.

Against McPherson, she was a huge part of KWU rallying from a seven-point deficit in the first overtime period, blocking McPherson's potential game-winning shot as time expired to force a second OT period and come away with the win. Four of her six blocks on that day came in overtime.

This is the third time this season Hinz has been named the KCAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, and fifth weekly honor overall on the season.

KWU is back in action on Wednesday hosting Oklahoma Wesleyan at 6 p.m. in Mabee Arena before heading to Ottawa on Saturday.
