Thomas 'Tom' R. Slusser, Carlton

January 5, 1951- May 9, 2021
Roselawn Mortuary sadly announces the passing of a most honorable and noble man in 1SG Thomas “Tom” R. Slusser, U.S. Army, retired. Tom passed away peacefully and lovingly with his family by his side on Sunday, May 9, 2021.
Tom was born January 5, 1951 in Lima, Ohio to Oran M. and Alice L. (Burman) Slusser, who precede him in death.
Tom retired from the U.S. Army in 1991 after serving nearly 22 years, earning a Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Medals, and a Meritorious Service Medal. ("The Meritorious Service 32 Medal (MSM) is a military award presented to members of the United States Armed Forces who distinguished themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to the United States subsequent to January 42 16, 1969.”-Wikipedia.) This was just an indication of the standard to which Tom would live his life, always giving more of himself, than for himself.
After his military service, Tom went to work for Great Plains Manufacturing, retiring in 2016, after 24 years as the paint department manager.
Tom’s second love and passion, other than his first true love for his loving and soft-spoken wife of 49 years, Sherry, and his two beautiful daughters Christina J. (Scott) Baker of Casper, WY, and Meredith L. (Scott) Erfort of Salina, was his love of riding his Harley Davidson with his fellow American Legion Riders Post 62. “It is my honor and privilege to stand a post.” Tom stood tall and proud with each funeral service he performed, yet quiet and humbled. Tom loved and respected the United States flag, and all that she stands for.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Oran M., and Alice L. (Burman) Slusser, and his son Nathan S. Slusser.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 24, 2021 at the Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina, then to follow his procession, led by his fellow veterans and members of the beloved American Legion Riders Post 62, to his military committal service at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, Kansas., scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to The Wounded Warriors in care of Roselawn Mortuary, P.O. Box 2322, Salina, 67402.
Sherry, Christina, and Meredith would like to thank each one for your thoughts, prayers, and acts of kindness before, during and after the passing of Tom. “Simply Said…Truly Meant… Thank you."
