The Bruce Zamrzla Monolith inside the Central Mall in Salina has officially been removed.

The mall made the announcement on Wednesday and the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks will be the recipient of the monolith.

Other educational displays were added with rededication and renovation of the aquarium in subsequent years.

It was dedicated in 1995 to honor Salina born and state biologist, Bruce Zamrzla.

Zamrzla was born on April 11, 1947 and attended Salina Public Schools, graduating in 1965. He then receives his B.S. in General Science from Fort Hays State University in 1969. From 1971-1973, he served in the U.S. Army, after working toward his Master's Degree at FHSU in 1973.

He began his career with the Kansas Forestry, Fish and Game Commission as a fisheries biologist on June 29, 1974.

Zamrzla served his entire career in the Ellsworth, Lincoln, Ottawa, Russell and Saline Counties.

He was killed in 1994, while returning home after presenting an educational program in Lincoln.

On the monolith, it quoted Zamrzla the day before his death.

"Even after death, there is life."
