WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Wind Surge (30-38) earned a 5-1 victory over the Frisco RoughRiders (33-35) in game five of a six-game series Saturday night at Equity Bank Park, backed by five scoreless innings from Adrian Bohorquez. The crowd of 10,512 is the largest of the season and fourth largest in ballpark history.
The Wichita pitching staff was dominant, allowing just one run on four hits. Bohorquez opened the night with five scoreless innings before Sam Armstrong followed with three scoreless frames of his own. Frisco plated its lone run in the ninth before Luis Quiñones recorded the final three outs to secure the victory.
Offensively, Graham Brown and Quinn McDaniel led the way with multi-hit performances. Kyle DeBarge drove in a pair of runs, while Marek Houston extended his on-base streak to nine games.
THE RUNDOWN
Bohorquez started on the mound for the Wind Surge and made quick work of the top of the Frisco order, facing the minimum while striking out two in the first inning.
The Surge opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when DeBarge lined a two-out single into left field to plate a pair and give Wichita a 2-0 lead.
The Wind Surge added two more runs in the bottom of the second, loading the bases before scoring on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to extend their advantage to 4-0.
Bohorquez finished his outing after five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four.
Brown added another run in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single, giving Armstrong a five-run lead heading into his relief appearance.
Armstrong continued to shut down the RoughRiders, tossing three scoreless innings of relief while striking out two.
Frisco broke up the shutout with a solo homer in the top of the ninth, but Quiñones recorded the final three outs to secure Wichita's 5-1 victory.
