Kansas Wesleyan women's tennis opened the spring portion of its season on Friday evening, inside, against the Morningside Mustangs at Genesis Health Center. The Coyotes would come away with a 4-3 win over Morningside.
The Coyotes would earn the doubles point as KWU won two of the three doubles matches. Makenzie Archer (FR/McPherson, Kan.) and Brianna Mendoza (JR/Balch Springs, Texas) beat Aleks Sadowska and Shelain Lewis 6-3, and Savannah Noel (SO/Portis, Kan.) and Jessica Smith (JR/Salina, Kan.) picked up a default win. Karley Benson (SO/Salina, Kan.) and Michaela Crowe (FR/Overland Park, Kan.) lost 6-2 to Emily Clotfelter and Jil Hellerforth.
KWU would seal the match win with three wins in singles.
Benson would beat Clotfelter 4-6, 6-1, 10-6; Archer would beat Sadowska 6-1, 3-6, 10-3 and Smith would get a default win.
Crowe would lose 6-1, 7-6 to Hellerforth; Noel lost to Kelly Nguyen 6-4, 6-7, 10-5; and Mendoza would retire due to injury in her match.
The Coyotes are off until next Saturday, hosting Hastings at Genesis starting at noon.
