Redistricting, jail among Saline Co. agenda items

Redistricting, the jail project, and vehicles are among the items on the Saline County Commission agenda for Tuesday.

About the meeting

Saline County Commission is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash Street. The meetings also can be viewed on Saline County’s YouTube channel:

Agenda items

Commissioners are scheduled to consider a resolution re-aligning the commission districts to make the five districts as close to equal in population as possible.

If approved, the commission districts would include the following townships and precincts.

District No. 1 (Monte Shadwick)

Townships: Cambria, Dayton, and Elm Creek

Precincts: 1, 2, 5, 8, 15, 16, 17 and 18

District No. 2 (Robert Vidricksen)

Townships: Eureka, Greeley (including voting areas Greeley 1, Greeley 2 and Greeley 3), Gypsum, and Solomon

Precincts: 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 29

District No. 3 (Rodger Sparks)

Townships: Liberty and Walnut

Precincts: 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31, 34, and 36

District No. 4 (James Weese)

Townships: Falun, Smoky View, Smolan, and Washington

Precincts: 12, 13, 14, 32, 33, and 35

District No. 5 (Michael White)

Townships: Glendale, Ohio, Pleasant Valley, Smoky Hill, and Spring Creek

Precincts: 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, and 24

Other items on the county agenda for Tuesday include the following.

●Consider approving a request to proclaim Entrepreneurship Week in the county

●Consider a request for installation of a dedicated fiber optics cable to link the new Saline County Jail with the Saline County data center. "The fiber will be used by the Sheriff’s office to connect to the City County building in order to access applications and data required by the Sheriff’s Office operations," according to information from the commission meeting packet.

●Consider awarding a bid for the county's 2022 hot-mix asphalt construction

●Consider awarding a bid for the county's 2022 bituminous crack sealing

●Discuss the county's vehicle fleet management

●Hear a jail project update
