STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Kansas Wesleyan opened play in the Inaugural NAIA Men's Bowling National Championships on Thursday at Five Star Lanes, and qualified 10th for bracket play in the event.
KWU finished the six sets of Baker games with a pin total of 4704, just 18 behind Midland, who earned the No. 9 seed.
According to Head Coach Todd Zenner, the team bowled the best they had all year in the qualifying.
"The team bowled the best they have bowled all year today," he said. "I couldn't be prouder of the team for their first time at NAIA Championships. When you're bowing the top teams in NAIA sometimes your best doesn't reflect in the standings."
KWU will face 7th seed Lawrence Tech at 7:15 a.m., Central Time, on Friday in the first round of the double elimination bracket play. The bracket play matches will be streamed live on the NAIA Network, at www.naianetwork.com.
Marian (Ind.) earned the No. 1 seed with a pin total of 5164, followed by Pikeville, Martin Methodist, St. Francis (Ill.), Indiana Tech, Ottawa, Lawrence Tech, William Penn and Midland.
