Kansas City NWSL loans goalkeeper to Danish team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Kansas City NWSL announced that the club has loaned goalkeeper Carly Nelson to FC Nordsjælland of the Danish Superliga, Denmark’s top division.

In addition, Kansas City picked up her NWSL contract option through the end of the 2022 season. The loan begins immediately and will last through FC Nordsjælland’s season.

The Lindon, Utah, native made her NWSL debut with Kansas City on July 23. Nelson earned her first clean sheet in the match as Kansas City fought to a scoreless draw with the North Carolina Courage.

Nelson was signed by Kansas City on Dec. 23, 2020. Prior to that, she was a part of the OL Reign (2019-2020) and the Utah Royals (2020) rosters. Collegiately, Nelson starred at the University of Utah, where she kept 10 clean sheets as a senior and was named to the All-Pac 12 Third Team.
