
Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference coaches selected Kansas Wesleyan's Kayla Deaver (JR/Lee's Summit, Mo.) as the KCAC Women's Soccer Newcomer of the Year, headlining KWU's selections to the 2020-21 All-KCAC Women's Soccer teams.
Deaver was one of three first-team selections along with Yarellie Galindo (JR/Lynwood, Calif.) and Krysta Catone (SR/Chino Hills, Calif.). Crystal Marquez (JR/Lynwood, Calif.) was named to the second-team. Marissa Morales (SR/La Puente, Calif.), Lissette Garcia (JR/Bakersfield, Calif.), Jacky Montepeque (SR/North Hollywood, Calif.) and Ashley Quintanilla (JR/Bakersfield, Calif.) were named to the honorable mention team.
Deaver was a force for the Coyotes up top, drawing several double- and triple-teams to stop her from scoring goals. She still finished the season ranked fourth in the KCAC in total points with 27 and fifth in points per match. She ranked fourth in the conference in total goals with 11 and was eighth in assists with eight.
Galindo finished the season with one goal and seven assists from the midfield position. Galindo was the corner kick specialist for the Coyotes, where she earned a majority of her assists. Her goal came on a corner kick play where she bent it over the line in the match against McPherson. She finished tied for third in the KCAC in total assists and third in the conference in assists per match.
Catone was part of Kansas Wesleyan's defense that led the KCAC in goal allowed, holding opponents to 17 goals in 20 matches, and the Coyotes also led the KCAC in goals allowed per match, at 0.85. Catone, a center back, was charged with marking several of the top players in the KCAC, limiting their scoring opportunities. Catone has been named First Team All-KCAC three seasons during her KWU career.
Marquez ranked in the Top 20 in the KCAC in total points and points per match. She also ranked in the Top 20 in the conference in assists. She finished the season with five goals and three assists.
Morales was one of three Coyotes to register five goals on the season, which ranked ninth in the KCAC. She also added two assists on the season to finish with 12 points, while ranked No. 13 in the KCAC.
Garcia finished with three goals and four assists for the Coyotes, and 10 points, which ranked No. 20 in the KCAC. She ranked No. 11 in the conference in assists and was ranked 25th in goals.
Montepeque was part of KWU's defense that held opponents to 17 goals during the season with nine of those coming in conference play.
Quintanilla was also part of KWU's strong defense, but also made an offensive impact. She scored the decisive goal in KWU's 1-0 win over Avila in the KCAC Semifinal that locked in KWU's appearance in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round.
The Coyotes finished the season 14-5-1 overall, and reached a 16th consecutive KCAC Semifinal, beating Avila 1-0 in the semifinal to advance to the championship match. The Coyotes earned a spot in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round, tying Columbia (Mo.) 0-0, but fell in the penalty kick shootout.
