WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Wind Surge (28-36) took the opener of a six-game series with an 8-2 victory over the Frisco RoughRiders (31-33) Tuesday night at Equity Bank Park, powered by a two-homer performance from Caden Kendle.
Kendle paced the offense, launching his 10th and 11th home runs of the season on his way to a four-RBI night. With Kendle's 10th homer, the Wind Surge set a franchise record with nine different players reaching double-digit home runs in a season. Jaime Ferrer also logged a multi-hit performance in the win, while Marek Houston drove in two runs to tally his 12th multi-RBI performance of the season.
On the mound, Cory Lewis struck out five over four innings before the Wichita bullpen shut down the RoughRiders. Hunter Gregory worked a scoreless inning, while Sam Armstrong tossed four scoreless innings of relief to close out the victory.
THE RUNDOWN
Lewis started on the mound for Wichita, working around a single while striking out two in the opening inning. The Wind Surge opened the scoring in the bottom half when Kendle launched his 10th home run of the season, a solo shot to center field, to take a 1-0 lead.
Frisco answered in the top of the third, hitting a two-run homer just over the wall in left field to take a 2-1 advantage.
Kendle struck again in the bottom of the third, launching a three-run homer over the berm in left field for his second long ball of the game and 11th of the season, giving Wichita a 4-2 lead.
The Wind Surge added three runs in the fourth. Ferrer singled on a hit-and-run to score Kyle DeBarge all the way from first before Houston added a two-run single to extend Wichita's lead to 7-2.
Wichita added a final insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, using a single, a walk and an RBI double to plate a run and make it 8-2.
The Wind Surge held Frisco scoreless over the final six innings to secure an 8-2 victory in the series opener.
