Janice Ann Neuschafer, 76, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 3:10 a.m., Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Cedars House.
Janice was born in Ellsworth, Kansas on July 5, 1944, a daughter of Alfren Henry and Margaret Anna (Demel) Neuschafer.
Janice attended the Enterprise Grade School and graduated from Chapman High School, Chapman, Kansas. She then attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas for two years and Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson, where she was a member of the Altar Society and a eucharistic minister for many years. She was also a volunteer for the Lord's Diner, Wichita, Kansas.
In 1966 Janice started working for the Post Office Department(later to become the U.S. Postal Service) in Wichita, Kansas as a secretary and served in various management positions in human resources, labor relations and delivery service in Wichita, Topeka and the Kansas City area. She served as officer in charge (acting postmaster) in Tonganoxie, Kansas, Humbolt, Kansas, Great Bend, Kansas and Marysville, Kansas. In 1985 she was appointed postmaster in Belleville, Kansas. In 1995 she was appointed postmaster of McPherson, Kansas. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 34 years of service in 1999.
Janice enjoyed her Catholic faith, travel, polka music, working in her yard and spending time with her friends and family.
She is survived by her siblings, Marvin Neuschafer and his wife Jolene, of Prosper, Texas and Mary Avery and her husband Dennis, of Abilene, Kansas.
She is also survived by nieces and nephews Michelle Neuschafer, Cindy Suitor, Mike Neuschafer, Mark A. Neuschafer, Nick Avery, and Ben Avery; several great-nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Margaret Neuschafer; and brothers Don and Vern Neuschafer.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with rosary starting at 7:00 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chapman, Kansas with Fr. John Wolesky officiating.
