NWS: More wind and warnings for Friday

Strong winds will be blowing once again through the area on Friday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued both a red flag warning and and high wind warnings for much of the area on Friday.

Red flag warning

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

NWS in Wichita has issued a red flag warning in effect from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

Marion County

McPherson County

Saline County

Northwest winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts of 55 to 60 mph and reative humidity as low as 30 percent are forecast.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and become very difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

High wind warnings

A high wind warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Friday for the following counties in our area, according to NWS in Wichita.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

Marion County

McPherson County

Saline County

Northwest winds of 30 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are forecast. On Friday, the highest wind speeds are expected in the afternoon.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

A high wind warning remains in effect through 6 p.m. Friday for the following counties in our area, according to NWS in Topeka.

Clay County

Cloud County

Dickinson County

Ottawa County

Republic County

Northwest winds of 25 to 40 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected.

Damaging winds can blow down trees and power lines. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

A high wind warning remains in effect through 6 p.m. Friday for the following counties in our area, according to NWS in Hastings, Neb.

Jewell County

Mitchell County

Northwest winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts of 55 to 70 mph are forecast.

Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
