Betty Ellen Chestnut

Betty Ellen Chestnut, 90 died December 4, 2020 at her residence in rural Clay Center, KS.  She was born on May 3, 1930 in Washington Co, KS, the daughter of Joe and Hilda (Moden) Johnson.  Betty was a graduate of the CCCHS class of 1949.  She worked at Elliot’s Drug store and Rex Theater.  Betty married Richard Chestnut on May 2, 1953.  To this union, Richard brought two sons, Mark and David after the death of his first wife, Eleanor Henry.  They made their home in the 4-Mile community where Betty was a member of the 4-Mile Presbyterian Church and EHU.  They later transferred their church membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center.  Richard preceded her in death on January 29, 2012.  Betty enjoyed gardening, square dancing with her husband and cooking meals for family, veterinarians, silage crews and anyone that visited the house.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Smart and Delores Tindall; brother, Leon Johnson; daughter in law, Laura Chestnut.

Sister-in-law: Avis Johnson of Overland Park, KS

Graveside Services: Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Republican City Cemetery in Clay Center, KS.  The service will livestream at https://www.facebook.com/nsrfuneralhome/live

Visitation: Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 4-7 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home
