Newton - Joan Ruth Duerksen, 83, passed away June 12, 2021 at her residence in Newton. She was born February 8, 1938 in Lehigh to Dan and Rose (Klassen) Plett. She married Willis Duerksen September 13, 1956 at Gnadenau Church rural Hillsboro.
Survivors include sons Noel (Barb) Duerksen of Springhill, KS, Richard (Amy) Duerksen of Newton; daughters Nona (Jeff) Mason of Goodland, KS, Martha (Roy) Hopkins of Newton; brother Robert (Eilene) Plett of Reedley, CA; sister Carol Jantz of Denver, Colorado; sister-in-law Rowena Plett of Lincolnville; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Willis Duerksen in 2015 and brother-in-law, Jerry Plett in 2020.
Celebration of Life service 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at Grace Community Church in Newton officiated by Pastor Steve Friesen. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Grace Community Church in Newton.
