Police are looking for a man who allegedly caused $3,500 worth of damage in a failed attempt to break into a woman's central Salina residence Friday.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that after a 49-year-old Salina woman went to work Friday morning, she saw at approximately 7:05 a.m. via her security camera, a male in a black jacket, blue jeans, and a black mask walking down the street near her home in the 900 block of S. Front Street.
The man went into her backyard and tried to open the back door. When that attempt was unsuccessful, the man then grabbed some old metal fencing from the woman's yard and attempted to pry the door open. When that didn't work, he went to another door and attempted to kick it in, but that also was unsuccessful.
The man was seen on security video leaving eastbound from the residence, Forrester said.
The woman estimated that damage to the doors, door frames, and fencing at $3,500.
