On Tuesday, the Champions Indoor Football League unveiled its 2021 schedule, and with it, the long road the Salina Liberty must take to reach another shot at glory.

The Liberty, who lost out on the 2019 crown on the final play of the championship game, will begin their revenge tour on March 20th, when Arlington pays Salina a visit.

Following that, Salina will play host to a familiar foe in the Sioux City Bandits, before hitting the road for a trip to Amarillo, and a date with the Venom.

After a week six bye, the Liberty will host the West Texas Warbirds before departing on a three game road trip that will take them to Sioux City, Wichita and Omaha.

The home stretch of the season will see Salina host Amarillo on May 21st, and Wichita on the 29th, before closing out their regular season back in Amarillo once more.

While the other six teams in the CIF battle it out in week 14, the Liberty will take a much needed break, and rest up for what will hopefully be another deep playoff run.

“Every team had an opportunity to play an approved CIF opponent, similar to what KU and K-State get to do in the Big 12 football schedule,” Liberty GM Francis Flax said. “That gives us six home games, and only five on the road.”

Returning to the helm for a third season is defending CIF coach of the year, Heron O’Neal, who will look to finally push the Liberty over the edge and win the franchise its first league title.

Salina will also be featuring a new look in the arena, after purchasing new turf and dasher pads from the Philadelphia Soul of the AFL.

With the schedule out, the countdown to indoor football can resume. Once again, Eagle Radio will be the home for Salina Liberty football, and games can be heard on 910 AM, 107.5 FM and streaming online here on Salina Post.
