NEW ORLEANS, La. - With just over a week remaining before the 2021 NJCAA Region VI Cross Country Championships, the Cloud County Community College Cross Country teams have regained the top rankings among Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference schools in the latest United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association NJCAA Division I Cross Country polls released on Wednesday.
Both the T-Bird men and women would make moves up the rankings this week, with the men peaking at number two for their highest ranking of the year while the CCCC women are back in the top five while sitting at number four this week.
For the Cloud County men, the three-spot promotion comes following a win at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open by holding off number three-ranked Colby Community College to earn a 12-point victory over the Trojans. The ranking is the highest for the T-Birds since winning the 2019 NJCAA Division I National Championship and trail only Iowa Central Community College in this week's poll.
A number four ranking for the CCCC women is a two-spot move up the polls for the T-Birds following a strong two-week stretch that saw Cloud County win the Fort Hays State Tiger Open after finishing as the top NJCAA school at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. Through four races this season, three different runners have finished as the top-runner for Cloud County as the T-Birds trail only Southern Idaho, Iowa Western, and Iowa Central in this week's poll.
Both the men and women will be off this weekend as preparations continue for the NJCAA Region VI Championship meet which will be held in Colby, Kansas on Oct. 30. Cloud County is the defending NJCAA Region VI Division I Champions on both the men's and the women's side as the women will look to go back-to-back while the men are seeking a third-consecutive NJCAA Region VI Title.
