KWU track teams continue success at Bethel Invitational

NORTH NEWTON – A small contingent of Kansas Wesleyan Track and Field athletes headed to Thresher Stadium and the Bethel Invitational on Friday, and came away with some solid results.

Just days after joining the team, Cole Parker (JR/Orland, Calif.) qualified for NAIA Nationals in the javelin. His toss of 56.22m won the event and qualified on the NAIA B Standard and is a Top 5 all-time best throw at KWU.

Marisela Hernandez-Castro (SR/Yuba City, Calif.) set a new school record in the hammer with a throw of 44.15m, breaking her own previous school record. She finished third in the event.

Jack Horacek (FR/Topeka. Kan.) finished second in the Steeplechase with a time of 10:35.13.

Samiyah Walker (FR/Bakersfield, Calif.) finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.11m.

Nicole Holaday (JR/Gove, Kan.) finished second in the shot put with a mark of 11.91m, Saffron Jacobs (SO/Johannesburg, South Africa) was 13th with a mark of 9.84m and Marisela Hernandez-Castro was 18th with a mark of 9.26m.

Cole Parker placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 15.09m, Hunter Pane was 13th with a mark of 11.56m and Tanner Trussel (FR/Colby, Kan.) was 20th with a mark of 10.96m.

Kamal Murphy (FR/Hollywood, Fla.) placed fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 63.29.

Kamal Murphy placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.71m.

Preston Rottinghaus (FR/Wichita, Kan.) placed sixth in the high jump with a best jump of 1.80m.

Kylie Mouser (FR/Wichita, Kan.) finished fifth in the 800m with a time of 2:29.28, Daniella Gaona (SO/Clifton, Texas) was ninth in 2:38.27, Regan Rhodes (JR/Mullinville, Kan.) was 11th in 2:39.42, and Josie Koppes (FR/Manhattan, Kan.) was 16th in 2:47.17.

Tiffany Pace (FR/Ferris, Texas) finished sixth in the 100m finals with a time of 13.14 seconds after qualifying fifth with a time of 13.00. Samiyah Walker had a time of 13.14 in the preliminaries finishing eighth.

Samiyah Walker finished seventh in the 200m with a time of 26.87, while Tiffany Pace was eighth in 26.97, and Tamayia Washington (FR/Manhattan, Kan.) was 11th in 27.06.

Nicole Holaday finished seventh in the hammer with a mark of 40.20m.

Shane Calvin (SO/Lakin, Kan.) placed seventh in the 1500m with a time of 4:14.36, Gavin Tucker (FR/Wichita, Kan.) was eighth in 4:16.38 and Stevie Merrill was 23rd in 4:31.36.

Eugene Dixon (SR/Plymouth, Minn.) placed seventh in the 100m finals with a time of 11.01m after qualifying eighth in the preliminaries. Darius Archuleta (FR/Liberal, Kan.) ran a time of 11.46 in the preliminaries, finishing 18th.

Darius Archuleta placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 6.18m.

Kaleigh Hanzlick (SR/Hoisington, Kan.) finished ninth in the high jump with a mark of 1.44m.

Ty Davidson (FR/Lakin, Kan.) placed ninth in the 800m with a time of 2:02.94, which Giovanni Rios (FR/Temecula, Calif.) was 12th and Roberto Apodaca (FR/Scott City, Kan.) was 25th with a time of 2:12.17.

Eugene Dixon placed 10th in the 200m with a time of 22.26 and Darius Archuleta was 24th with a time of 23.54.

Hunter Pane placed 10th in the discus with a mark of 37.76m and Tanner Trussel was 24th with a mark of 17.82m

Alayna Behrman (FR/Craig, Colo.) was 13th in the 1500m with a time of 5:52.19, and Savannah Pilsner (FR/Columbus, Texas) was 15th with a time of 6:10.37.

Hunter Pane placed 16th in the hammer with a mark of 37.08m.

KWU is back in action next Saturday at the Tabor College Invitational in Hillsboro.
