Law enforcement authorities are investigating a DUI accident that occurred over the weekend in Salina involving a local woman.

Just after midnight Sunday morning police responded to an accident in the 900 block E. Republic Avenue in Salina, according to Salina Police Sgt. Kyle Tonniges.

When officers arrived, they found a 2012 GMC Terrain, driven by L'laena Jones, 20, Salina.

"She was driving her terrain west on Republic and apparently it was raining at the time and she said her wipers began to malfunction," Tonniges said. "She veered over and struck a black Ford F-150 pickup that was parked on the side of the street."

When officers spoke with Jones about the accident they suspected she was under the influence. A field sobriety test was conducted and she was subsequently arrested for DUI.

Tonniges said officers also discovered a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle.

Jones was arrested with requested charges including, DUI, the possession of alcohol by a minor possession of marijuana possession of drug paraphernalia, and inattentive driving.
