The Saline County Sheriff's Office is joining law enforcement agencies across the nation for a public campaign for the Labor Day Weekend.
The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign is reminding motorists to drink responsibly and to think twice before getting behind the wheel.
According to the Sheriff's Office, during this campaign, motorists can expect to see increased law enforcement presence on local roads during the nationwide safety campaign, which runs from August 23 to September 7.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, even a small amount of alcohol can affect one’s ability to drive. Drivers need to be responsible.
If you drink and drive, you could get arrested or worse, be involved in a traffic crash involving injury or death. It’s not cheap either. A first-time offense can cost the driver upwards of $10,000 in fines and legal fees.
Drunk driving is illegal and deadly.
Drivers should plan ahead this Labor Day weekend:
· If you intend to drink, don’t drive.
- Designate a sober driver.
- Call a rideshare or taxi.
· If your friend is going to drive, take away the keys and provide a sober way home.
· If anyone spots a drunk driver, call local law enforcement.
