Juanita "Janie" L. Heitfield

Janie’s life began on December 19, 1939, in Lost Springs. She was the daughter of Adolpho and Julia Gonzales. Janie was united in marriage to Robert Potocnik and later to Glenn L. Heitfield, Jr. who both preceded her in death. She had worked at the Herington Lutheran Home (Legacy) for several years as a nurse’s aide. Janie was a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Herington. She loved her animals and enjoyed shopping anytime she could. Her great joy was her family which includes her children Julie Newbury, Troy (Robyn) Heitfield, and Barbara Hart, all of Herington, Paul Potocnik of Lost Springs and Becky Smith of Alliance, NE; 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and siblings Kenny Gonzales of Chicago, Nick Gonzales of Herington, Connie Alvarez of Lost Springs, Margaret Roediger of Herington, and Mary Klenda and Celia LaPlante, both of Hillsboro. Janie passed away on Thursday January 4, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. She is preceded in death by her parents, spouses, children Julie Potocnik, Robert Potocnik, Jr., and Cynthhia Byrd and her siblings Delfina Nobles, Virginia Rezcznski, and Carmen Gonzales, Sr. Her family will gather with friends on Monday January 8th from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday January 9th at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Herington. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery in private service. Memorial contributions in Janie’s name may be directed to Legacy at Herington Activity Fund in care of the funeral home.
