Margery Marie Eberle was born on the family farm north of Glen Elder on June 9, 1926 to Hettie Green Barnett and Oscar Chester Eberle. Marge was the oldest of three children. She started school in a one room schoolhouse, Washington #22. She and her brothers, Max and Bill, rode their pony or bike to and from school, three miles each way, always uphill! She graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1944 and attended Kansas State College, Manhattan from 1945-1947.
May 18, 1946, she and a friend went roller skating at the City park in Beloit, where she met Raymond Briney. Marge and Ray were married on September 7, 1947 at the Christian Church in Glen Elder. Three daughters were born to this union, Rebecca, Roberta, and Rachelle.
Ray and Marge lived in Beloit, then Russell before moving to Cawker City in April, 1953, where Ray took over as manager of the Cawker Lumber Yard. Marge opened a Nursery School in her home with Robi’s class being her first class. She also worked at Miller’s Nursing Home, Terry’s Rexall Drug Store, and helped with the library, even helping to move it to the present location.
In January, 1966, Ray was transferred to the Smith Center Lumber Yard, and the family moved to Smith Center. Marge worked at Duckwall’s for many years. Ray and Marge loved to travel, going from coast to coast. Ray and Marge celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 1972. Ray passed away on June 8, 1987 and Marge returned to their home in Cawker City. She worked for the State Park before becoming manager of the Cawker City Senior Center until she retired.
Marge married Calvin Doyle Schultz on August 30, 2003 and spent 12 years together before Calvin passed away in 2015. They loved going to the farm to feed cats and check on the cattle and crops. Marge was a member of the Christian Church in Glen Elder and Smith Center, and attended the Baptist Church in Cawker City.
Marge loved to entertain people with her antics, especially as “Minnie Pearl”. Robi and Marge did many programs together. She was diagnosed with dementia in 2007, but to see her you would never know it.
Marge passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021 at the Parkview Memory Care Unit in Osborne, Kansas.
Marge’s memories will be remembered by her daughters, Beccy and Mike Isom, Kensington, Robi and Jerry Clark, Glen Elder, and Shelly and Michael Burhans, Rapid City, SD; her grandchildren, Julie (Dan) Molzahn, Tracy (Valerie) Clark, Michelle (Travis) Elliott, Garry (Lindsey) Clark, Jami (Eric) Knutson, Travis (Jordan) Burhans, and Michaela (Cody) McGuire; great grandchildren, Trey Molzahn, Kody (Cheyanne) Molzahn, Katie and Ashley Clark, Madeline and Kyler Elliott, Laney Clark, Edric and Easton Knutson, Beckham, Elise and Adalyn Burhans, Cayson and Camdyn McGuire; and sister-in-law, Bernita Eberle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ray and Calvin; brothers, Bill and Max Eberle; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Clark and Bailey Clark.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Friday, December 17 at the Cawker City Baptist Church followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM with family present from 5-6 PM Thursday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Charity of Donor's Choice.
