By SALINA POST
With the arrival of cooler weather and many leaves still on trees, Salina General Services staff will begin curbside leaf collection from Dec. 2 through Jan. 31, weather permitting. Residents are encouraged to follow the guidelines provided below to ensure an efficient collection process and help keep city streets and storm drainage systems clear.
Participant Guidelines and Information
Pile Placement: Rake and pile leaves between the curb and sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, place piles directly behind the curb. Note that staff will not collect leaves in bags, alleys, on private streets, or at commercial properties.
Avoid Mixing Debris: Leaf piles mixed with other debris, such as tree limbs or branches, will not be collected.
Keep Streets Clear: Do not rake or blow leaves into the street, as this creates traffic hazards and violates City Code. Leaves in the street can also clog storm drains.
Parking Considerations: Avoid parking vehicles directly in front of or behind leaf piles to make collection easier for city crews.
Prepare Early: Ensure leaves are ready for collection by the first day scheduled for your respective zone.
Single Round of Collection: Each zone will receive one round of curbside collection. However, residents can call to report missed pickups or request additional collection if late leaf deposits or weather conditions require it.
Please remember that leaf collection will not be conducted in alleys, private streets, or for commercial properties. By following these guidelines, Salina residents can help make this seasonal service smooth and effective for everyone.
