February 14, 1931 - October 8, 2021

Jean Anette Linder, age 90, died October 8, 2021, in Wakefield, KS. She was born February 14, 1931, to Wayne Arlington and Francis Grace (Baird) Riggs in Garden City, KS. Jean grew up in Hutchinson, KS and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1949. She then attended Hutchinson Junior College and received her associates degree in 1951.

Jean married Orival Linder on December 16, 1951. They made their home in Clay Center in 1960.

Jean worked as the shipping coordinator at Hutchinson Mayrath for many years. She also took care of the bookkeeping for Orival’s veterinary practice for almost 30 years and was the bookkeeper for their son Jay’s trucking business.

She was an avid gardener, cook and sports fan, particularly of the Royals, Chiefs and Kansas State. Above all other sports she was an avid golfer and was considered an expert on the game’s complicated rules.

Jean was always upbeat and never complained even through her long illness with inclusion body myositis.

She was a member of AVMA Auxiliary, Kansas Women’s Golf Association, Triple-M Investment Club, the Clay Center Country Club, and the Clay Center Christian Church, and was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader, and a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Orival, parents, and stepmother Blanche Riggs.

Daughter: Susan (Mike) Gillespie of Manhattan

Son: Jay Linder of Clay Center, KS

Son: John (Christene) Linder of Wakefield, KS

Brother: William Riggs of Kinder, LA

Six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren

Funeral services: Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clay Center Christian Church in Clay Center, KS. The family requests friends and family to attend sporting your favorite sports attire.

Visitation: Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Clay Center Christian Church
