
Harold Gene Shannon, 82, of Salina, passed away on August 16, 2025. He was born in Hays, Kansas, on August 27, 1942, to Harold A. and Cathrine (Karlin) Shannon.
Harold grew up in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1961. After graduating, he married Cecelia Martinson on May 26, 1963.
Harold worked as a custodian for the Officers’ Club at Shilling Air Force Base in Salina. He later worked for Executive Film Deliveries for 21 years and retired from UPS after 21 years in January 2000.
Harold enjoyed go-kart racing and restoring classic cars, with a special interest in Volkswagens. A talented handyman, he kept himself busy and passed on his knack for tinkering to his children. He also enjoyed camping and riding jet skis. Above all, Harold loved his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold A. and Catherine Shannon; his brother, Richard L. Shannon; his sisters, Caroline A. Burt and Connie May Shannon.
He is survived by his wife, Cecelia Shannon of Salina; his son, Darrel R. (Rhonda) Shannon of Salina; his daughter, Sheri (Frank) Pausteiner of Arizona; grandchildren Chad (Stephanie) Hatfield, Jesse (Christina) Hatfield, Nikki Hatfield, Darrel G. Shannon, Dannielle J. Shannon, and Dustin Shannon; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many lifelong friends.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
