UPDATE: Frost advisories, freeze warnings issued for our area

UPDATE 4 p.m. Sunday: Freeze warnings are now in place for our entire area. Additionally, there are some frost advisories for tonight.

<b>Temperatures will fall into the 30s across the area tonight. Portions of Central KS will approach the lower 30s and may see patchy frost develop by early tomorrow morning.</b>

Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a freeze warning in effect from 1-10 a.m. Tuesday for the following counties in our area.

Marion County

McPherson County

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 are expected.

Additionally, the National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a freeze warning in effect from 1-10 a.m. Tuesday for the following counties in our area.

Lincoln County

Saline County

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a freeze warning in effect from 10 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday for the following counties in our area.

Clay County

Cloud County

Dickinson County

Ottawa County

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 23 are expected.

Additionally, the National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a freeze warning in effect from 10 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday that includes Republic County.

Freeze warnings and freeze watches have been issued for counties in our area.

The first hard freeze of the fall is expected late Monday night into Tuesday morning across much of central and eastern Kansas.

Low temperatures will fall into the upper 20s for several hours. That could kill temperature sensitive plants, if they are left unprotected.

Freeze warnings

The National Weather Service in Hastings, Neb., has issued a freeze warning in effect from midnight tonight to 10 a.m. Monday for the following counties in our area.

Jewell County

Mitchell County

Sub freezing temperatures of 24 to 32 degrees are expected.

This freeze warning only includes areas that have not already seen a killing freeze this season. Some portions of northern Kansas may only see a brief period of near-freezing temperatures Monday morning. A widespread hard freeze is likely Monday night into Tuesday morning.
