The former City Lights Stage on the corner of N. Santa Fe Avenue and W. Ash Street is getting a new name.
On Monday, the Salina Commission voted 5-0 to rename the landmark to the "City Lights Pavilion."
According to the City, these naming guidelines established policies and procedures for naming facilities in five different categories that included, municipal naming, philanthropic naming, honorary naming, landmark naming and commercial naming.
According to Salina 2020, who developed a plan for the purchase and installation of the shade structure ($1.4 million project), stated the signage is anticipated to be completed in August 2026 along with the structure.
The "City Lights Pavilion" signage will be placed at two locations:
One on the shade structure facing North and the other facing East at the parking lot entrance off Santa Fe.
The signage would be funded as part of the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) financing and would be manufactured and installed as part of the ongoing construction of the shade structure.
According to the Kansas Department of Commerce, TIF is a real estate redevelopment tool applicable to industrial, commercial, intermodal transportation area and residential projects. KDOC describes that TIF uses the increases in real estate tax revenues and local sales tax revenues to retire the bonds sold to finance eligible redevelopment project costs (K.S.A. 12-1770 et seq.) or to reimburse the developer on a "pay-as-you-go" basis.
