Hilga Hamburg Trow, 95, Bennington, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis. Hilga was born January 31, 1927, on the SS Hamburg sailing on the Atlantic Ocean with her parents and brother while traveling to America. Hilga was the daughter of Robert and Emma (Kiefer) Rastetter.
Hilga was raised and educated in rural Bennington. She graduated from Bennington High School in 1945. Hilga went on to further her education at Ottawa, KS to obtain her teaching certificate. After two years of college, she started teaching in Verdi, which was a one room schoolhouse. She later started teaching at the Bennington Grade School and retired in 1995 after 48 years of teaching.
Hilga married Leo Trow on August 5, 1950, in Bennington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo on November 29, 1997; dear brother Edwin; and dear sister Erma.
Hilga is survived by her son John Robert Trow of Bennington; nieces Marilyn McKee of Oquawka, IL and Kathy Hay of Olathe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 22 at the United Church of Bennington. Burial will be in the Bennington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the United Church of Bennington and may be left in care of the funeral home.
