During this season of giving, the employees of Marshall Motor Company are doing their part to give to others.

On Saturday, the dealership plans to give away 500 coats to children who need them.

The fourth annual Marshall Children's Coat Give Away is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the dealership, 3500 S. Ninth Street.

General Manager Jason Stroda told Salina Post this morning that the dealership has purchased 500 children's coats, thanks in part to generous contributions from Marshall Motor's employees. He explained that employees have the opportunity to have a portion of their paychecks withheld and put into a coat fund. That money then receives a match from the dealership.

The idea for the coat giveaway came about a number of years ago when some of the sales people were putting their money together to buy gifts, such as toys, for members of the community. More employees joined in as more and more people showed up to get the gifts. It was then that Marshall Motor employees began to see a need for children's coats, and the dealership adopted the coat giveaway as an annual event.

Marshall Motor employees also are getting the chance to play Santa this year. Stroda said he gave each employee $100 and asked them to go out in the community this holiday season and give the money to a random people to help them out and brighten their day.
