ARKANSAS CITY – Building a 21-point lead heading into championship Saturday, the Cloud County Community College men's track and field team would earn three NJCAA Region VI Titles as part of six top-three finishes on day two of the NJCAA Region VI Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Mark A. Phillips Track and Field Complex in Arkansas City on Friday.
The 21-point lead comes following a 58-point outing from the T-Birds on day two of action as Cowley sits in second with 37 points followed by Barton in third with 33 points.
Finishing off a Region VI Title after getting started yesterday in the decathlon would be Andrew Betton by scoring second-place finishes in the pole vault (4.05 meters, 13 ft. – 3.5 in.) and the 1,500 meters (4:51.00) to finish with a total of 6,214 points and secure 10 points for CCCC. Also competing in the multi-event competition and securing a sixth-place finish would be Marcquiece Cade after earning an event win in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.08.
Cloud County's remaining two Region VI Champions on Friday would come courtesy of Daniel Cope in the weight throw with a toss of 54.26 meters (178 ft. – 0 in.) and a facility record time of 7:40.67 in the 4x800 meter relay by Rylan Cheney, Michael Iyali, Saba Khvichava, and Habtamu Geta.
Just missing out on Region VI Titles but finishing as Region Runners-up would be Caden Bach (javelin, 53.21 meters, 174 ft. – 7 in.) and Awet Beraki (10,000 meters, 30:37.03) while Courtney Lawrence would earn a third-place finish in the discus (47.05 meters, 154 ft. – 4 in.). The remaining points scored by CCCC on Friday would come from Edwin Kipainoi with a time of 33:05.45 in the 10,000 meters for a sixth-place finish.

A full day of events and action will close out the third and final day of action in Arkansas City as a team champion in addition to several event champions will be crowned.
