Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball got back into the win column on Wednesday as the Coyotes grounded the Tabor College Bluejays in straight sets - 25-22, 25-15, 25-18 - inside Mabee Arena.
The victory ended a string of two straight losses for the Coyotes.
The first set was tight throughout, but the Coyotes only let Tabor lead twice in the set, the last time at 6-5, both times the set was retied after a Bluejay service error. The Coyotes took the lead for good in the set when Gianna Adriaanse put down a kill to make it 9-8.
Another kill by Adriaanse extended the lead and the Coyotes would push the advantage out to 16-10.
Tabor made it interesting, getting back within a point a 20-19 on back to back service aces, but a kill by Kylee Harris got the Coyotes going again and a kill from Kate Bebout made it 22-19 Coyotes.
A block by Kate Bebout and Harris gave KWU set point and Adriaanse delivered with a kill to give the Coyotes the lead in the match.
The Coyotes rocketed out to a 7-0 lead in the second set but Tabor pushed back getting within three at 8-5. It was 11-7 Coyotes when KWU extended the lead out to 17-8 on a Tabor hitting error. Ella Schmid's service ace made it 22-13 Coyotes and after the Coyotes had set point at 24-13 on a Harris kill, Tabor got two points before KWU got the set win on a hitting error by the Bluejays.
Tabor led 4-3 in the third set but a kill by Camryn Lewis sparked a 5-0 run for the Coyotes giving KWU an 8-4 lead. The Coyotes held the lead until Tabor took a 15-14 advantage and then led 17-16. The Coyotes tied it at 17 on a kill by Rylee Serpan and took the lead on a hitting error by Tabor.
A kill by Harris and a block by Madelyn Wolf and Lewis made it 20-17 Coyotes. Tabor got a point to make it 20-18, but that was the last point Tabor scored on the night. A kill by Wolf sparked the match-ending run that featured two blocks and two kills, both by Harris to end it.
Harris had 10 kills to lead the Coyotes to the win while hitting .304. Adriaanse and Serpan had nine each and Joey Pennington had seven. KWU hit .216 as a team. Sara Bebout had 20 assists and Blair Pennington had 14. Tristyn Hedman had 12 digs and Blair Pennington had 10.
