HILLSBORO - Kansas Wesleyan Baseball completed the three-game sweep of the Tabor College Bluejays on Sunday with a 14-8 victory at the Tabor College Baseball Field.
The Coyotes took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as Fernando Ruvalcaba hit a 2-run homer after Garrett Garfield had been hit by a pitch to reach with two outs in the inning.
Tabor tied it in the bottom half of the inning.
The Bluejays took advantage of a KWU error in the bottom of the second to take a 3-2 lead.
Wesleyan answered back in the top of the third as Tyler Favretto walked and later in the inning Carter Allen drove in courtesy runner Alex Garcia with a single to tie things up.
In the fourth the Coyotes took a 4-3 lead on Coulson Riggs' sacrifice fly after Blake Dale had singled and Chase Aurand had doubled.
The Coyotes stretched the lead by a run in the fifth on Favretto's solo homer.
Tabor got three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-5 lead, but in the sixth the Coyotes responded. Joe Finder was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Aurand doubled. Pinch hitter Eric Romero doubled home a run to tie things up. After a fielder's choice and a walk to Favretto, Garfield singled to drive in two runs to give the Coyotes the lead.
Tabor got one back in the bottom of the frame, but the Coyotes distanced themselves in the seventh.
Finder homered to start the rally. Dale singled, Romero walked and Jacob Williamson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Favretto then stepped up and unloaded them with a grand slam to put the Coyotes up 13-7.
The scored stayed the same until the ninth when KWU added a run on a wild pitch. The Bluejays also scored a run in the ninth but the Coyotes would close it out for the win and the series sweep.
Favretto was one of five Coyotes with two hits while driving in five runs. Ritter Steinmann got the win in relief for the Coyotes. He went three and a third innings allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts.
