A pickup being jump-started caught fire on South Simpson Road Sunday morning.

Jacob Thelander, 28, of rural Saline County, was attempting to jump-start a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup for James Miller when a fire started in the engine compartment, Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said this morning. The fire occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday on Thelander's property in the 2900 block of South Simpson Road, he added.

The pickup was destroyed, Soldan said.
