Sacred Heart students placed third out of 27 teams at the Kansas State High School Activities Association 2A State Forensics competition Saturday in Wichita.
Olga Silverman, the team's coach, noted that while other teams had more competitors who had qualified in more categories, Sacred Heart's smaller team earned an incredible win.
"They really did an amazing job, and every member of the team played their part in our victory," Silverman said.
In his second year of competition, Abram Anderson, took first place in extemporaneous speaking and second place in impromptu, according to information from the school.
Other second-place finishes included senior Stephanie Silverman, in extemporaneous, who also finished fourth in Informative; and junior Nailea Mata, in oration, who also finished third in poetry.
Junior Jazmin Jasso Rodriguez was the fourth member of the team to medal, taking fourth in oration as well.
Junior Dayne Goss and sophomore Jaden King both finished eighth in extemporaneous and informative, respectively.
Additionally, Silverman, who also served as site manager for the state championship, expressed her appreciation for the help her students provided in preparing for and running the tournament.
